a well-done life's final quaff
if someone has to hand you the cup
because you're too weak to hold it up
	what have they done
	that could hurt anyone?

while media hypes cavort with him
(the split screen flashing the latest scores)
his placid face showing no remorse
	he has killed them
	it's not our problem

even before the iron gates close
a deep groundswell of worship grows
we find bold traces of adulation
plastered on our ward's refrigeration
	the ones who dare
	are the nurses who care

he'll take his punishment like a man
tries to smile whenever he can
he's refined his life to a living will:
the end to a good life is dying well
	with his usual flair
	he'll drink his share
